XXI annual report “Foreigners in the Italian Labour Market” of the MPSL 

The XXI Annual Report “Foreigners in the Italian Labour Market” is online, presenting and analysing the 2021 data. 

Foreign employment amounts to 2.3 million representing 10% of total employment. Sectors where foreign employment is most common include agriculture (18.0% of total employment), construction (15.5%) and hospitality (15.3%). 

However, the largest proportion of foreign workers is in other public and personal services: 34.3%. In 2021 there was an increase of 2.4% of employees referring to migrant workers and a -5.7% of unemployed foreigners.  

In worsening instead the data on poverty as demonstrated by an elaboration published by Istat for the XII Annual Report.  30.6% of the families of strangers are in absolute poverty.
