Published the report on the activity conducted in the 2021 by the Italian National Labor Inspectorate

On August 12, the Italian National Labor Inspectorate published the report on the activity that took place in 2021.

In 2021 the percentage of the controls carried out by INL on companies reached 78% of the overall controls uniformly distributed across the national territory: 30% of the inspections were carried out in the South of Italy, except for Sicily which, depending on the regional status, has its own autonomous inspectorate, 29% in Central Italy and 41% in Northern Italy. The autonomous provinces of Trento and Bolzano have their own inspectorates as a result of their autonomy.

The spread of illegal employment

Another important finding in this report is the distribution of irregularity rates on an inter-regional basis: in the Northeast there, the highest irregularity rate is over 70%, 61.48 % in the Northwest and almost 60 % in the Centre and in the South.

Concerning the relationship between the number of unreported workers and the number of inspections with irregular outcome, the highest percentages on a regional level were recorded in Campania, then in Tuscany and Calabria.

The sectors in which the irregularity was most frequently identified

The highest irregularity rates can be observed in the construction and tertiary sectors where there is a significant rate of irregularities in accommodation and food services, transport and warehousing. Especially in business support services where indications of irregularities are primarily due to illegal subcontracting and interference.

Data regarding the protection of workers, victims of illegal gang mastering and labor exploitation are confirmed with 2,192 victims of exploitation, which recorded an increase of 18% compared to 2020.
