World Day for Safety and Health at Work

28 April 2024 marks the 21st World Day for Safety and Health at Work, an initiative established by the International Labour Organization (ILO) in 2003 with the aim of promoting awareness and debate on the prevention of occupational accidents and diseases.

According to provisional data collected by Inail, 2023 has been a dramatic year in terms of workplace safety. On average, almost three people lost their lives every day at work, with a total of 1,041 reports of workplace deaths over a span of twelve months.

At the same time, between January and December 2023, over 585,000 reports of workplace injuries were recorded. Additionally, reports of occupational diseases showed a significant increase, with almost 73,000 cases reported by December 31, 2023, representing a 19.7% increase compared to the previous year. This figure suggests that there are conditions developing over time, likely due to harmful exposures or unhealthy work practices.
