ISTAT: Published the annual report 2022 – The transformations of immigration

On 8 July, at Palazzo Montecitorio, ISTAT presented its 2022 Annual Report.

The ISTAT Report, now in its thirtieth edition, analyses the economic and social situation of the country in 2021 and early 2022.

In Chapter 3 of the Report, particular attention is paid to the transformations of immigration. 

The data collected shows that in the last ten years there have been profound changes in the demographic and social fabric of Italy, and immigration has also changed considerably.

The last decade has been characterized by the rooting on the territory of the migrants who arrived in the past decades and by the changing of the new incoming migratory flows. In fact, if on the one hand the entrances have decreased, on the other they have assumed different characteristics and migratory patterns.

Among non-EU citizens, there has been a sharp narrowing of flows for work reasons, while there has been substantial stability in family reunification and a sudden growth of migrants seeking international protection.
